Abstract

|
Objectives: This methodological review was conducted to determine the extent to which outcome research on marriage and family therapy (MFT) appears in MFT journals and to illuminate the types of research design being utilized in the outcome reports of various family therapy models.
Methods: To highlight the clinical and professional relevance of existing outcome research, the researchers reviewed six years of clinical research in three major MFT journals.
Results: The results suggest that MFT outcome research is under-represented in major review articles.
Conclusions: Clinicians can use a variety of methodologies to establish the outcomes of their work, and more research is needed to investigate how and why MFT works in real world settings. Clinical and research implications are discussed.
